Amish Hamburger Steak Bake is a comforting dish combining seasoned beef patties with creamy mushroom gravy, perfect for family dinners.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound Ground Beef (use 80/20 blend for extra juiciness)
  • 1 cup Saltine Crackers (can substitute with breadcrumbs)
  • 1/4 cup Milk (any variant or non-dairy option works)
  • 1 tablespoon Italian Herbs (substitute with mixed dried or fresh herbs if available)
  • 1 teaspoon Onion Powder (adjust if using fresh onions)
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic Powder (use minced fresh garlic for stronger flavor)
  • 1/4 teaspoon Cayenne Pepper (omit for milder flavor)
  • 1 teaspoon Salt (adjust to taste)
  • 1/2 teaspoon Pepper (adjust to taste)
  • 1/4 cup Flour (gluten-free option available)
  • 1 can Cream of Mushroom Soup (substitute with homemade mushroom sauce for elevated flavor)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, crushed saltine crackers, milk, Italian herbs, onion powder, garlic powder, cayenne pepper, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined.
  3. Shape the mixture into eight equal patties, about ½-inch thick, and dredge each patty lightly in flour.
  4. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and add a drizzle of oil. Brown each patty for 2–3 minutes per side.
  5. Whisk together the cream of mushroom soup and a splash of milk until smooth. Pour over the browned patties.
  6. Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes, then remove foil and bake for an additional 10 minutes.
  7. Let the dish rest for 5 minutes before serving.
