  • 1 cup warm milk (about 110°F)
  • 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ¾ cup apple butter (store-bought or homemade)
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon melted butter
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk or cream
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of cinnamon (optional)

Instructions

  1. Combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast in a large bowl. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until frothy.
  2. Add melted butter, egg, and salt. Gradually mix in flour until a soft dough forms. Knead for 6–8 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  3. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  4. Mix apple butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a small bowl.
  5. Roll dough into a 14×18-inch rectangle. Brush with melted butter and spread the apple butter mixture evenly.
  6. Roll tightly from the long side, cut into 12 even pieces, and arrange in a greased 9×13-inch pan.
  7. Cover and let rise for 30–45 minutes until puffy.
  8. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 25–30 minutes or until golden brown.
  9. Whisk powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla. Drizzle over warm rolls before serving.
