  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1 cup chocolate chips
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • extra chocolate chips for decoration

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, cream together ½ cup of unsalted butter and ½ cup of brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  2. Add in 2 tablespoons of milk and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, mixing well.
  3. Gradually stir in 1 cup of all-purpose flour and ½ cup of chocolate chips.
  4. Once combined, set this cookie dough aside in the refrigerator to chill while you make the cake.
  5. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  6. Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  7. In a large mixing bowl, beat ½ cup of unsalted butter and ½ cup of granulated sugar until creamy.
  8. Add in 2 eggs, one at a time, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, mixing thoroughly after each addition.
  9. In another bowl, whisk together 1 ½ cups of all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon of baking powder, and ½ teaspoon of baking soda.
  10. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with ½ cup of milk, starting and ending with the flour mixture.
  11. Mix until just combined.
  12. Gently fold in 1 cup of chocolate chips.
  13. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.
  14. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  15. Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for about 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  16. While the cakes are cooling, make the frosting.
  17. In a bowl, beat together 1 cup of unsalted butter until creamy.
  18. Gradually add 3 cups of powdered sugar, mixing well.
  19. Add in 2 tablespoons of milk and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, continuing to beat until light and fluffy.
  20. Once the cakes are completely cool, place one layer on a serving plate.
  21. Spread a layer of frosting on top.
  22. Take the chilled cookie dough and crumble it over the frosting, making sure to keep some for decoration.
  23. Place the second cake layer on top and cover the entire cake with the remaining frosting.
  24. Decorate the top with any remaining cookie dough and extra chocolate chips.
