Jägerschnitzel is a classic German dish featuring breaded and fried pork cutlets topped with a rich mushroom gravy.

Ingredients

  • 4 pork cutlets (about 150g each)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 200g mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 2 tbsp sour cream
  • 1 tsp paprika

Instructions

  1. Pound the pork cutlets to an even thickness.
  2. Season with salt and pepper.
  3. Coat each cutlet in flour, dip in beaten eggs, then coat with breadcrumbs.
  4. Heat butter and oil in a pan over medium heat.
  5. Fry the cutlets until golden brown on both sides, about 4-5 minutes per side.
  6. Remove cutlets and set aside.
  7. In the same pan, sauté onions until soft.
  8. Add mushrooms and cook until tender.
  9. Pour in beef broth and simmer for 5 minutes.
  10. Stir in sour cream and paprika.
  11. Pour the mushroom gravy over the cutlets before serving.
