  • 800 grams Apples (about 4 medium apples), peeled, cored, and cut into large chunks
  • 680 grams Pears (about 4 medium pears), peeled, cored, and cut into large chunks
  • 15 milliliters Lemon Juice
  • 1 Vanilla Bean or 1 teaspoon vanilla bean paste
  • 25 grams Brown Sugar
  • 1 Cinnamon Stick
  • 1 teaspoon Freshly Grated Ginger
  • 0.5 teaspoon Ground Cardamom
  • 0.25 teaspoon Ground Cloves
  • 0.25 teaspoon Freshly Grated Nutmeg

Instructions

  1. Peel and core the apples and pears. Cut them into large chunks and place them into your slow cooker.
  2. Drizzle the lemon juice evenly over the fruit chunks in the slow cooker.
  3. Split the vanilla bean down the middle, scrape the seeds into the slow cooker, and add the empty pods (or add vanilla bean paste).
  4. Sprinkle the brown sugar over the fruit mixture. Add the cinnamon stick, grated ginger, ground cardamom, ground cloves, and grated nutmeg.
  5. Cover the slow cooker and set it to low heat. Cook for about 6 hours, or until the fruits are tender.
  6. Remove the cinnamon stick and vanilla pods.
  7. Use an immersion blender to puree the mixture to your desired consistency.
  8. Serve the Slow Cooker Pear Applesauce warm or allow it to cool completely.
