Vanilla Spiced Pear Butter combines the natural sweetness of pears with aromatic vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg for a spreadable treat that’s perfect for holiday breakfasts and homemade gifts.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 cups pears (peeled, cored, and diced)
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 cup sugar (adjust to your sweetness preference)
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Peel, core, and dice the pears. Place them in a large saucepan with the water, and bring to a simmer. Cook for 10-15 minutes, until the pears are soft.
  2. Use an immersion blender to purée the pears until smooth. If you don’t have an immersion blender, transfer to a regular blender and purée in batches.
  3. Stir in the sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla extract. Add lemon juice and mix well.
  4. Lower the heat and simmer for 1 to 1.5 hours, stirring occasionally. Continue cooking until it reaches a spreadable consistency.
  5. To preserve, pour the hot pear butter into sterilized jars, leaving 1/4-inch headspace. Seal and process in a boiling water bath for 10 minutes.
  6. Once cooled, serve the pear butter on toast, scones, pancakes, or as a topping for yogurt or oatmeal.

Notes

  • This recipe yields approximately 4 cups of pear butter.
  • Adjust sugar according to your taste.
  • Store in a cool, dark place for best flavor.
